Clas Regional Day
18th November 2006
CLAS Regional Day hosted by Mercian Scribes at John Taylor High School Barton under Needwood, Staffordshire
Mercian Scribes have the honour of hosting the CLAS Regional Day this year and are looking forward to it with great excitement.
We are a relatively new society, founded in 2004, based in the historic city of Lichfield at the heart of the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of Mercia.
Lichfield Cathedral is the home of the St Chad’s or Lichfield Gospels, a manuscript contemporary with the Lindisfarne Gospels. The Cathedral is well worth a visit if you have time, to discover its beautiful architecture and to view the “Turning the Pages” facility which allows you to examine all the pages of The Gospels. If you wish to spend more time in the area the local Tourist Offices will be able to recommend excellent accommodation.
John Taylor High School is easily accessed from the A38 between Lichfield and Burton on Trent. It has disabled access and plenty of parking. Our day will start at 10 am and finish at 4.30 pm, during which time there will be lectures by Mary Noble and Manny Ling, the opportunity to watch several demonstrations and take part in activities, and, of course, spend some money! For a more detailed account of what will be happening, please turn the page.
The first two Summer Schools, organised by Peter Halliday, were held at Repton School in the ancient Mercian capital. We look forward very much to bringing a CLAS event back home to Mercia and seeing you in November.
